New Connectify Video

Posted by agizis on February 17, 2010 under Uncategorized

We did a quick new introduction to setting up your own Wi-Fi personal area network with Connectify on YouTube:

Enjoy, and tell me what you think.  Are there parts of Connectify that you’d like to see better covered/demonstrated?

    Nice video.
Any way – here i found the most close-clicked place to leave a comment, about connectify it self.
Downloaded your tool, to connect my PC and a laptop. My PC Wi-fi tail have no AP abilities, so previously i connected them via computer-to-computer method (it's like a laptop XP need to get access throught PCwin7, which is connected via Ethernet-VPN to the internet, and do it via wi-fi) So i've got an issue that i need to turn on computer-to-computer connection every time laptop needs an access to internet.
I've installed your solution, and like now i need to turn it on to connect to your programm. Any way – i use it like a nice DHCP-wi-fi atm. but it takes like a 15Mb of RAM and connection quality lowered from 96%-100% to 60%-70%.
In fact i would like to test it for a high ping issues, then playing some MMO like Aion. (i think if i'll overload my sistem your connectify will fail to let my laptop to play together with my PC)
Any way – please – fix the clicking issue and lower RAM consuming, and you will like get rid of the routers :) way to go to the best AP solution ever)

For compatibility with older devices, it would be great if you added WPA and WEP support.

    Icy:
I'm not sure I understand you completely.

It's using less than 3 MB for each of the user interface and the service right now on my computer (6 MB total). It briefly uses more when it starts up, but then slowly returns the memory to windows.

For me, pings going through a Connectify machine are about 2ms worse that going straight to the Wi-Fi router. This is exactly the same result that I get chaining two Linux Wi-Fi routers.

What is the connection quality number that you are looking at?

The password has a minimum length of 8 characters in Access Point mode. It'll be red until you hit the minimum length.

I love this program but i would love it if you guys added the option for wep and unsecured connections for compatibility with older devices and so i can set up a quick hotspot at family and social gatherings without having to cart around a router and give everyone the password.

Figured out what was causing Connectify to crash.

I found that Connecitfy was crashing some times. Turned out that if the connection was shared via my wi-fi connection and my wi-fi got turned off then Connectify would crash.

Easy to work around once you realize the source of the problem but hopefully something you can address in a next release.

    Otherwise, killer app!

Grant: I can't reproduce that, I've tried every combination of disabling my wi-fi while Connectify is running, and it never crashes for me.

If you don't mind, could you try to reproduce, and then restart Connectify and then from the Menu do Support->Generate Log File. Then email that zip files and a description of what you did to support@connectify.me?

Thank you, we appreciate the support and feedback.

Will this software work for PSP in the future? (Because PSP only works with WEP and older kinds of WPA)

My wifi card is intel 5100 AGN
and the phone i am using to connect is 5530.
My internet connection is done as follows :-
Firstly my computer connects automatically to LAN
Then I dial a PPPoE connection

In connectify I gave the PPPoE connection name and created hot spot

I also tried by giving the LAN name

    anyway to make this work

I too am having problems. I've never been able to install it since version 1.0!
Emailed support and got no help, and gave up hope.
Tried picking it up again at version 1.2, hoping the problem was fixed, but still no luck.
Every time I try to install, it gets stuck on "Waiting for connectify to exit (Connectify – 2)".
I've never had Connectify successfully installed!
I interact with and make suggestions to clients every day, and can't suggest this if I myself can't get it to work on a clean new install of Windows 7.
I hope I can finally get some kind of assistance.

I re-installed twice and still not working: the guest has no access to internet
When connecting to the hotspot, I get 2 active networks both with same connection but no internet access.
Card of host is ATHEROS AR928X so supported and the MS virtual wifi miniport is installed and OK
    Host runs W7 ultimate
Laptops trying to connect to hotspot were one under W7 Home and one W7 Ult.

    Posted on 4-13-2010

Why is that it's not mentioned that Connectify not only that doesn't work over a PPPoE connection but was never meant to work over such a coonection?!
It might work for those kind of Internet connections where the DSL cable goes straight into computer and connects write away to the Internet. So in other words is a very limited application!

    Posted on 4-29-2010

Any luck getting it to work over PPPoE? My PS3 gives me a DNS error each time it tries to connect to the Internet. And something like WEP protection would be nice to have as an option for the access point. All my devices seem to be unable to digest the default encryption system you have there.

    Hi,

I have a Windows 7 laptop at home which is directly connected to the internet via DSL. I want to share the internet connection via connectify. I successfully downloaded and installed connectify software. Other users at home can connect to my laptop but system is showing that they dont have access to the internet (No Internet Access). I'm wondering if there's a special configuration that I need to do.

    Please advise.

    Thanks a lot.

That's exactly my problem. I believe you have a PPPoE connection, that is, you have to sort of dial your provider to log in with your username and password. Apparently, password protected connections pose many difficulties and there's no available solution to them at the moment. Except for one person above saying he solved the problem, but seems not to be eager to share his findings with the community.T_T

I was hoping to use this with my iPad, but I cannot get it to work. I successfully installed this Connectify software on my ASUS netbook. The iPad shows as a connected client on the Connectify window on the ASUS, but the internet page does not download to the iPad. I tried connecting with a Lenovo laptop to the ASUS Connectify hotspot with the same result. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
