Let’s step back for a minute. Today, when we connect to the Internet, whether at home or at work, we use a router. That router runs a piece of software called a NAT, or Network Address Translation. Basically, the NAT makes all the computers connected to the router look like one machine. Then, once you go to an actual website, you hit something called a load balancer, a device that controls your connectivity to the website on the other end. We’ll spare you technical details, but simply put, the NAT, the load balancer, and the way our Internet connections have been setup in general, prevent you, from going too fast. The NAT limits your access to the Internet connection, while the load balancer controls usage of the website that you’re browsing.
Turns out, this isn’t your problem. And, since you’re already paying for Internet connectivity at home, on your 4G dongle, and via your smartphone, we see no good reason why you shouldn’t be able to use any combination of these, or any available connection to speed up your browsing experience.
At that, our team of networking geeks (the same ones that brought you the popular Connectify Hotspot app) went to work on Dispatch. For starters, we put a NAT right inside your computer. Now, all the software on your laptop sees a single Internet connection, when in reality, there are multiple connections. The load balancer essentially keeps track of the strength and speed of each Internet connection, and Dispatch uses it to intelligently divide your traffic across all available connections. With Connectify Dispatch, you can combine 2 Wi-Fi networks and the 3G card from your mobile carrier at the click-of-a-button. Keep adding connections, and Dispatch keeps giving you speed and reliability.

We’ve already spec’d it out: at the $250,000 stretch goal, we’ll be able to bring the power of Connectify Dispatch to Macs! Everything that we plan to develop for PCs, from the unlimited connection aggregation capability to that sleek Dispatch user interface, will be available to OS X users all over the world, if we reach this goal.
Knowing a little bit about us will go a long way in explaining why we’re hoping to “kickstart” this project. Back in 2009, our small team of developers came up with the idea for Connectify Hotspot, an easy-to-use app that would let anyone transform their laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot at the click-of-a-button. Back then, there was no big product launch when we released Connectify Hotspot 1.0; we just quietly made the software available on our little corner of the Internet. But, when Slashdot caught wind of our product, then Lifehacker, GigaOM, and virtually every other tech blog, we went from being a small group of software developers and designers, to a real-deal “company” overnight.
The do-it-yourself ethic is still a huge part of our company DNA, here at Connectify. So, when lightning struck with the idea for Connectify Dispatch, we immediately jumped into action, coding up a bare-bones “alpha” version of the application, just to prove that it could work.
