Connectify out in the World.

Posted by agizis on February 16, 2010 under Uncategorized

To my surprise, it turns out that I can do something right!  Yesterday, my daughter returned from getting her hair cut to tell me that her hairdresser is using Connectify on her Windows 7 laptop to share her Internet.  So that’s nice to see real, hip people using our software.

Speaking of people using our software, two weeks back, we decided to stop hosting the Connectify installer on our site, and to move it to trusted download sites.  This means you can now download Connectify from CNET’s download.com or PCWorld‘s download site (they have a nice editorial review of the software as well).

There are two reasons that we did this, one is because of the trust factor: both sites virus and malware check the software, so you know it’s safe to run.  Another is because they post lists of how many downloads different software packages are getting.  This way you can see for yourself that Connectify is the #1 download in Wireless Networking Software and the #3 download in Networking Software.

That’s exciting stuff for us.  Thank you to all of you who are using it, and keep those stories rolling in about how you use Connectify.

The only thing I trust is open software. None trusts CNET because they cannot scan a compiled application. None trusts you. Its a balance between needing and risk. Someone who gives out compiled software always has his small secrets in the code. Your not better.

I found your product through a tech podcast. What a find! Great product and totally free of charge. Thank you!

Wow, it works very well. I thought I would never get anything to work and be dependable with win7. Works everytime. I have a laptop with two wireless adapters. One connects to my office a block down the street and the other shares the connection with my wifes laptop or desktop computer (depending on which she is using) Thank you so much for the great easy to use software!

100 by 100 with your comment, ChrEichert.

Typical program compiled for wintendows, it is unclear what you have and not given the opportunity to improve by other programmers, that is respectable and appreciates the skinny contribution.

But where is Linux and the opensource to remove the rest, for now, Linux is the best and pioneer for certain topics such as network services, How are you on things, just a wannabe wintendows xD… just have to see the small amount of configuration parameters connectify compared to any Linux-based system.

Constructive criticism and sorry for mi english, LOL…

@ChrEichert @Rigar We hear you and agree to a point. Most of the tools we use in development open source and we couldn't live without them.

However even after all the time and effort we have put into this project as well as the continued support for 300,000+ users Connectify is still free of charge.

We got into this business to help people, not deceive them, and will remain closed-source to do so within the best of our ability.

Very nice software, but I one thing you could you really help with is a way to support Nintendo DS wifi connections. Nintendo only supports WEP as encryption and no Ad hoc. This issue is the bane of every family home network. We don't want to expose our network to an insecure mode but the kids want to occasionally connect their Nintendos. If you could add this support (with the required warnings and security prognostications) we would be eternally grateful.
